Luxe: high gloss finish

Luxe, a new sheet product from Spain’s Grupo Alvic, brings high gloss Euro style finishes to the US market. High gloss finishes have long been popular in contemporary European kitchens, but the high price of high gloss made these contemporary styles only a small part of the US kitchen market. That seems likely to change however, with the introduction of Luxe.

Luxe combines a durable, scratch and stain resistant gloss coating on one side of the sheet with a matte laminate back, making it perfect for custom slab style doors for kitchen, bath, or built-in. Unlike other high gloss finishes which must be applied in-house by your cabinet maker, Luxe arrives in standard sheet sizes, which reduces the cost of a high gloss finish considerably – by about 30%. Luxe is also environmentally friendly and meets stringent quality and emissions standards with both CARB II and ISO 14001 certifications benefiting consumers, stake-holders, and employees.

Luxe is available in numerous colors, textures, and patterns, a sampling of which appears below.

Working with Maggie Eickhoff Interiors, we recently updated a transitional kitchen using Luxe- the transformation is below. The original beadboard Shaker doors and crown molding made the kitchen feel traditional – not at all in keeping with the new homeowner’s modern style. Although the original brick “oven” was retained, the Luxe slab style doors, metal lined display shelves, and pantry area give the kitchen a more contemporary appearance.

Before and after: a traditional kitchen with beadboard Shaker style door and drawer fronts gets a makeover with slab style high gloss white doors, lit stainless steel lined shelving and a new pantry area
